If you’ve ever been to Pine Banks Park, and you’ve entered the park where the baseball field and track field are, then you’ve passed by this memorial. The Lynde Memorial, displayed in a large rock, exists in honor of Ensign Thomas Lynde’s house. Lynde was the first settler in Melrose (born in 1616 in England) and came to Charlestown in 1684 (although the house was built in 1670) and descendants of Lynde lived in the house until 1881. The memorial now stands in honor of this, noting that his house used to exist right across the street from Pine Banks Park.
